About the Grampian Club

Who we are, where we are and what we do

We are a Dundee based climbing club with a membership of about 220. Most of our members live in or around Tayside but we have members from all parts of Scotland and farther afield.

Historically, the club has had members interested in all kinds of mountaineering; from technical rock and winter climbing, skiing and all levels of hillwalking. Nowadays, most of our members are primarily hillwalkers going out into the Scottish mountains in all seasons and weathers. Many members joined as novice fair-weather walkers and have developed their skills on club meets, gaining experience and confidence in navigation, poor conditions and in using ice axe and crampons. We have a small group of active rock climbers in the club who are always keen to pass on their love of steeper ground.

Club outdoor meets are organised as Day Meets and Weekend Meets with sporadic trips abroad to the greater ranges.

We have a regular indoor meet programme involving lectures and slide presentations and an annual dinner.

The Grampian Club has two superbly situated properties, a basic but comfortable hut in Glen Etive and a well-appointed cottage in Torridon for the sole use of members.
