The Club Cottage: Newton Cottage, Torridon
The club cottage in Torridon is well appointed and suitable
for longer breaks or family holidays. It is only open to members.
There are threebedrooms, two with three beds and one with four beds, and
a boxroom with one bed. Downstairs, the lounge has several armchairs and
a solid fuel stove and in the new extension are two showers and toilets,
a drying room and the large kitchen area. The kitchen is well equipped
and has great views out to Liathach and is a pleasant place to sit and
talk on the rare (!) occasions when midges and rain keep you indoors in
the evening.
Liathach and the web of stalking paths south of the cottage which lead
to Sgorr Ruadh, Maol Chean Dearg and Beinn Damh are all in walking distance
of the cottage.
Beinns Alligin and Eighe are just a short drive up the glen. The cottage
is only bookable by club members.
The Club Hut: Glen Etive
The club hut in Glen Etive, Inbhirfhaolain, is a basic
but comfortable climbing hut, sleeping 13 upstairs on a double sleeping
platform, supplied with mattresses.
Downstairs has a large dining table, chairs and a bench with several armchairs
and a solid fuel stove, the newly refurbished porch can also be used as
a drying area and there is an attached kitchen with electric stoves and
a fridge.
Water must be carried from the nearby Fhaolain River and there is a composting
toilet next door with great views to Beinn Starav (if the door is left
open!). The hut is well placed for Glencoe and the Etive hills with easy
access to great walking and rock climbing and is open to members and other
clubs affiliated to the MCofS and the BMC and is in considerable demand
at weekends so very early booking is advised.
Inbhirfhaolain is listed in the MCoS Huts list and details
of contact are there. Evidence of membership of BMC and or MCoS affiliation
( via a Club or individual membership) is essential-if only for insurance
purposes. Bookings cannot be accepted otherwise.
